I am a licensed psychologist with a PhD in clinical psychology from Yeshiva University’s Ferkauf School of Professional Psychology. The in-depth academic education and clinical training I received during my 5 years of doctoral training set me on the path of appreciating academic rigor and clinical training.
During graduate school I sought out clinical experiences that were consistent with my long-term goal of being a psychotherapist. I externed at Montefiore Hospital, and interned at the Postgraduate Center for Mental Health, in each of their Child and Adult Outpatient Clinics. After earning my doctorate, I worked at the Fifth Avenue Center for Counseling and Psychotherapy, another out-patient mental health clinic, before starting my private practice.
Throughout my early professional years, I sought out weekly clinical supervision for my work, knowing that processing my experience as a therapist was essential to providing my clients with the best possible treatment. As I gained increasingly more experience, I sought out supervision when needed, as well as additional training. For almost 20 years, I participated in a weekly professional study group, led by a senior psychoanalyst, which focused on discussing contemporary writings in the theory and practice of psychotherapy, and applying the material to our clinical work. I have studied Couples Therapy at the Ackerman Institute for the Family, and Emotionally Focused Couples Therapy (EFT) in an on-line series with the late Sue Johnson, Ed.D., a co-developer of EFT, which is based on attachment theory. I have also been trained in Focusing, which is an experiential approach to healing and growth, at The Focusing Institute.
